Job Summary

The Utilities (Civil) Engineer is responsible for planning, managing, and improving the City's essential infrastructure. You'll use your technical skills to develop long-term solutions, oversee capital projects, and ensure our systems are operating efficiently. This position has a wide variety of small and large capital improvement project work, such as, engineering support/construction oversight of water distribution & wastewater collection system improvements (water main extension projects, sanitary pump stations, plant upgrades); stormwater management projects (field investigation & resolution, conveyance and flood protection projects); easement negotiations, and contract management. Whether you're analyzing data, reviewing engineering studies, or meeting with residents to solve stormwater concerns, you'll be playing a key role in keeping St. Peters functioning at its best.

This position gives you the autonomy to make important decisions, manage budgets, and negotiate contracts. If you enjoy a blend of hands-on fieldwork and technical project management, this is the role for you!


Normal Shift: Varies Monday through Friday


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering studies and City data to develop long-term infrastructure plans for water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.

  • Preparation and management of procurement, construction and professional services contracts

  • Review and prepare improvement plans for potable water, sanitary sewers, and stormwater projects..

  • Provide construction management on city water / wastewater/ stormwater infrastructure projects

  • Collaborate with field staff to address infrastructure issues and support residents with stormwater / wastewater / water related concerns.

  • Provide technical support for infrastructure programs.

  • Negotiate right-of-way acquisitions, service extension agreements, and other contracts.

  • Provide technical engineering advice and assistance to other City staff, departments and officials

  • Represent St. Peters in meetings with federal, state, and local agencies.


Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university, with Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) Certification and five (5)-years of responsible engineering experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's license valid in the state of Missouri.

  • Ability to lift and handle a minimum of 75 lbs.

  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database computer application programs.

  • Ability to develop, interpret and communicate information from blue prints, plans and legal descriptions
